International Day of Rural Women

The crucial role that women and girls play in ensuring the sustainability of rural households and communities, improving rural livelihoods and overall wellbeing, has been increasingly recognized. Women account for a substantial proportion of the agricultural labour force, including informal work, and perform the bulk of unpaid care and domestic work within families and households in rural areas. They make significant contributions to agricultural production, food security and nutrition, land and natural resource management, and building climate resilience.

World Humanitarian Day

On August 19, the eleventh year that we have marked World Humanitarian Day, we are paying special tribute to the real-life heroes who have committed their lives to helping others in the most extreme circumstances throughout the world.

The campaign focuses on what drives humanitarians to continue to save and protect lives despite conflict, insecurity, lack of access and risks linked to COVID-19.

International Youth Day

2020 Theme: Youth Engagement for Global Action

The theme of International Youth Day 2020, “Youth Engagement for Global Action” seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.

Regional Emergency Gender Based Violence Advisor (REGA) - LAC Region

The REGA will be hosted by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) LACRO where they will engage in interagency regional capacity building activities, provide technical support to country GBV coordination mechanisms, and contribute to global level processes linked to the Gender Based Violence Area of Responsibility (GBV AoR).  The REGA will deploy up to 50% to country offices (COs) within the region including other official travel. On the occasion that a REGA will deploy to a system-wide scale up in emergency, the length of deployment will be a maximum of six weeks.
