Preventing and preparing for internal displacement during armed conflict is notoriously difficult. In comparison, the predictable, cyclical or slow-onset nature or geographic location of many hazards, such as hurricane season, volcanic eruptions or droughts, means that much can be done to avoid disaster displacement in the first place or reduce the risk of displacement, through disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate change adaptation and development measures that address the underlying causes of displacement.

Organized by UNHCR, GPC, IOM and the GBV AoR, the focus of the Roundtable will be to discuss the greater involvement of the GPC, field clusters and AoRs and their role in preparedness efforts and including necessary preparedness measures in their protection strategies and respective operations. The event will inform the development of specific guidance on the role of the protection cluster and AoRs in preparedness efforts and measures in their operations.
