If you work in a GBV sub-cluster (or equivalent) and need support for coordination, information management, or any other issue related to the work of the GBV sub-cluster, please contact the GBV AoR Coordination Team by emailing them on the Contact Page.


The Helpdesk offers expertise on a wide variety of GBViE issues. Technical support focuses on questions you may have about existing or prospective GBV response and service delivery linked to: 1) coordination efforts in line with the GBV in Emergencies Coordination Handbook; and 2) undertaking GBV-specialist prevention and response programming.

Rapid programme support

Guidance on how to collect information on GBV issues in emergencies and develop effective GBV prevention and response programmes that adhere to international standards and are capable of securing funding from institutional donors. Support can be delivered through Skype/ WhatsApp and email.

Research, Analysis and Advice

Research, analysis and advice to enhance yours and your organization’s knowledge, understanding and approach to GBV in emergencies. Support takes the form of written reports, such as briefing papers, literature reviews, and/or annotated bibliographies.

Quarterly Evidence Digest

Provides humanitarian staff at the global, regional, country and field level with a manageable summary of the latest research, evidence and learning on GBV in emergencies.

Training and Knowledge Tools

In-depth guidance notes on best practice in GBV in emergencies programming and policy engagement.

Managed by Social Development Direct, the Helpdesk is staffed by a global roster of GBV experts ready to provide rapid, tailored support – including to GBV specialists, sector programmers, coordinators, and management.

Community of Practice

GBV AoR Community of Practice

The online GBV AoR Community of Practice is a place for GBV professionals working in humanitarian settings to build community. We discuss challenges, troubleshoot solutions, and celebrate successes. Discussions range from informal requests for suggestions and resources to thematic podcasts led by experience GBV specialists to promote learning, motivate new thinking, and facilitate online discussion on the critical issues that many of us are facing in our day to day work. 

The GBV AoR Community of Practice has been launched with support from the U.S. Department of State, Bureau for Population, Refugees and Migration as part of the multi-phased Managing GBV Programmes in Emergencies, led by International Medical Corps.

Child and Adolescent Survivor Initiative

CASI Community of Practice

The purpose of the Child Protection (CP)/Gender-based Violence (GBV) Community of Practice (CoP) is to improve linkages between CP and GBV actors to ensure that child and adolescent survivors of sexual abuse in humanitarian settings receive response services that meet their diverse and specific needs. The CP/GBV CoP is a key activity of the Child and Adolescent Survivors Initiative (CASI), led by the CP and GBV AoRs in partnership with the International Rescue Committee and NORCAP.

Remote and Field Support

The Child and Adolescent Survivors Initiative (CASI) seeks to improve the quality of and access to services for child and adolescent survivors of sexual abuse in emergencies. Through the partnership of the Global Child Protection (CP) Area of Responsibility (AoR) and Gender-based Violence (GBV) AoRs, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and the Norwegian Capacity (NORCAP) expert deployment, CASI provides inter-agency support to country-level CP and GBV coordination mechanisms and service providers on the response to child and adolescent survivors.
