Crisis Continues: GBV Sub-Sector Sudan Situation Brief Update – 16 June 2023

Since 15 April, the number of people in need of GBV services in Sudan has increased by over 1 million to 4.2 million people. The number of individuals targeted for GBV services has increased to 1.3 million. To reach these targeted individuals, the GBV Sub-Sector Sudan has included USD 62.8million in the revised 2023 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP). As of mid-June, less than 12% of the GBV funding request has been met. During the 19 June 2023 Pledging Conference, the GBV Sub-Sector Sudan encourages donors to consider the GBV implications of the crisis in Sudan and take specific efforts to meet the needs and requests highlighted below.

Who is this course for? This training is addressed to all professionals who hold a dedicated GBV function or have GBV in their job description. GBV specialists can be project managers, technical experts, advisors or coordinators, and they generally cover a range of responsibilities, including: • Conducting specialized GBV assessment, planning, budgeting and resource mobilization; • Implementing specialized GBV prevention, risk mitigation and response programming; • Providing support to other sectors to mainstream GBV and lead GBV coordination; and • Contributing to GBV data and information management. This paper focusses on the issue of technology in GBV prevention, mitigation and response in emergencies and aims to improve knowledge and understanding of good practices and lessons learned in harnessing technology to improve efforts to address GBV in humanitarian action. The paper was first published in 2019. The information and analysis were developed through review of recent literature and evidence on the use of technology-related innovations in GBV programming in humanitarian and non-humanitarian contexts, semi-structured interviews and correspondence with technology, GBViE and other specialists, and analysis of case studies collated based on a framework for enquiry. The paper was updated in December 2021 with a review of the latest literature and evidence to reflect recent developments in technology and GBV, including during the COVID-19 pandemic.
