Guidance Note on Applying Feminist Approaches to Humanitarian Action - GBV AoR Helpdesk 2024
16 Jul, 2024
This paper considers the question of whether feminist theories and principles hold the potential to help the humanitarian system better meet many of its highest priorities. Research across the world provides widespread evidence that feminism can benefit not just women and girls, but entire communities and societies. Already across the UN system, there are strong normative frameworks and rhetorical commitments to women’s rights and empowerment. Feminist principles are deeply embedded in UN conventions and guidance that are key to humanitarian response. However, at the level of humanitarian action, these feminist principles tend to “show up” most regularly and explicitly only in specific areas: GBV prevention and response, gender mainstreaming and gender-transformative programming, and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda. Despite the strong normative frameworks and rhetorical commitments to women’s rights and empowerment, and despite empirical evidence on the value of advancing fe...
Advocacy on Rise of GBV risks for Women and Girls in Relation with Greatest Food Insecurity in WCA - GBV AoR WCA Regional Team 2022
06 Apr, 2022
On the 14th of March 2022, the United Nations Secretary General warned of “a hurricane of hunger and a meltdown of the global food system” as a consequence of the Ukraine crisis. Inequalities together with distribution and logistics problems linked with the consequence of the crisis in Ukraine, have disrupted global supply chains. In a globalized world already experiencing unprecedented levels of food insecurity, the crisis in Ukraine will impact food security everywhere. Few places will experience this more forcefully than the countries of West and Central Africa; and women and girls of West and Central Africa will once again bear the brunt of conflict and crisis, even one thousands of miles away...

Niger: Les Violences Basees sur le Genre (VBG) Examen des Donnees Secondaires - Jan 2023
13 Feb, 2023

Humanitarian Financing For Women's Organisations and Groups - GBV AoR Helpdesk 2024
22 Nov, 2021
This report identifies a range of funding opportunities for national and local women’s rights organizations to help prevent and respond to GBV in emergencies. Women around the world have lived experiences that are different from men, informed by norms that perpetuate gender inequality. This gender inequality in turn underpins multiple forms of violence that women and girls are exposed to across their lives. In humanitarian settings, certain types of violence against women and girls, (VAWG, also referred to as gender-based violence, or GBV) can increase. Women’s organizations with expertise in addressing GBV are often best- placed to identify and meet the needs of women and girls affected by GBV in their communities, as well as to undertake contextually relevant strategies to prevent GBV. This document was developed to identify potential sources of funding for local women’s organizations. This list of donors is not exhaustive but serves as a starting point
