AFFECTED POPULATION

There are 5.8 million people in dire need of GBV prevention, mitigation and response activities majority of them women and girls. Half of the affected population is women and girls, and 6% of those are female heads of households. Women and girls continue to suffer disproportionately from GBV and violations of basic rights due to conflict, insecurity, overcrowding in IDP sites, forced relocations and returns, lack of livelihood opportunities, lack of community awareness on women’s rights as well as lack of access to response services. They are also exposed to survival sex and SEA risks due to lack of access to aid and resources.  Even with the underreporting of GBV, across the areas covered by the Health cluster, 16,968 survivors of GBV accessed or were referred for medical services in 2021 (Health cluster bulletin - August 2021)
