Research Querry: GBV and Anticipatory Action Approaches
29 Jul, 2021
This report is a primer for GBV actors on anticipatory action. It aims to provide a brief overview of what an anticipatory action approach is, including how this approach differs from disaster risk reduction and preparedness work. The report describes the systems, processes and timelines that align with the approach, including the different lead times for undertaking anticipatory actions depending on the specific type of emergency event, or hazard, and how these link to operational planning processes, including the design of GBV activities to be implemented as part of the anticipatory actions
Energy, Gender, and GBV in Emergencies- Mercy Corps & WRC 2019
06 Dec, 2019
The Women's Refugee Commission and Mercy Corps’ Energy in Emergencies: Reducing Risks of Gender-based Violence (EEMRG) project, funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration, aims to improve safety and opportunities for women and girls through inclusive access to energy in emergencies. The report and accompanying case studies on Energy, Gender and GBV in Emergencies incorporate input from refugees, humanitarian practitioners and market actors and lay the foundation for a forthcoming training program, which will be rolled out in 2020 in close collaboration with Mercy Corps teams in Afghanistan, Jordan, and Uganda.

Considerations for GBV service providers when requested to provide GBV case management - to women and girls experiencing IPV - in a detention or prison setting - GBV AoR Helpdesk 2023
02 Feb, 2023
This guidance note has been generated in response to a request for practical guidance to GBV caseworkers in the Latin America region who have been asked to support women in detention settings and prisons who have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV) and who continue to be at risk of intimate partner violence whilst in detention/prison and upon release from detention/prison. This publication is likely, however, to have wider benefit to GBV caseworkers working in other humanitarian settings. The paper begins with an explanation of the key terminology and definitions, goes on to explore the experiences of women and girls in detention who are impacted by IPV, explores some of the ethical considerations of providing case management to an IPV survivor in detention and concludes with key actions that can support the safety of a survivor in detention, as they prepare for release from detention and post-release. An illustrative case study and a reference list are also included.
Brief Guidance Note: Risk Analysis to Promote Safe Implementation of GBV Response and Prevention Programming - GBV AoR Helpdesk 2022
13 Dec, 2022
This guidance note provides basic information on how to conduct risk analyses for gender-based violence (GBV) programming. A programmatic risk analysis is useful as it considers some of the essential features that should already be in place, or planned for, when designing and implementing GBV response or prevention programming to ensure safety. This guidance first provides a brief discussion of risk analyses for response and prevention programming, and then provides sample checklists for key components of the analyses. The document concludes with a list of supplemental resources to further inform risk analyses design and implementation.
TIP SHEET: Top Tips for Conducting GBV Awareness Raising Campaigns - GBV AoR Helpdesk 2022
13 Dec, 2022
Awareness campaigns are important because they contribute to heightening awareness of gender-based violence (GBV) as a violation of human rights that affects society as a whole (UN Women, 2021:3). Over the years, awareness campaigns have helped to rally support for and influence change in international and national legislative, and policy frameworks, as well as sustain vital gender based violence prevention and response programming to support survivors.
GBV AoR Capacity Strengthening Strategy 2023 — 2028
30 Oct, 2023
This Strategy focuses on strengthening the capacity of Country AoR Members, including local actors, and Country AoR Coordination Teams, to enhance their respective programming and coordination capacities for GBV prevention and response. It has been developed in consultation with the IASC GBV Guidelines Reference Group, the global interagency coordination group leading capacity building efforts on GBV risk mitigation with humanitarian actors working in non-GBV sectors and clusters. This ensures dedicated capacity strengthening on all three core components of GBV Programming: mitigation, prevention and response, while simultaneously reinforcing that GBV is a shared responsibility across the entire humanitarian system. Whilst this Strategy focuses on GBV prevention and response, the accompanying Annex outlines the general approach for capacity strengthening on GBV mitigation, as developed by the IASC GBV Guidelines Reference Group, and reaffirms the AoR’s commitment to ongoing collaborati...
