Beyond the Shadow Pandemic: Preventing and Responding to the GBV Risks and Experiences of Adolescent Girls
Save the Children and the Women’s Refugee Commission warmly invite you to a critical discussion on the margins of CSW and the Generation Equality Mexico Forum focused on the issue of adolescent girls and their increased risks and experiences of gender-based violence, and calling for concrete and actionable solutions. Gender inequality, combined with unequal age-based power dynamics and discrimination, means that adolescent girls, particularly the most marginalized, experience distinct risks of GBV and additional barriers to accessing essential response services. Adolescent girls too often fall through the gaps between protection efforts focused on younger children and those designed for women. Collective and coordinated action, the inclusion of adolescent girl-led solutions, and concrete policy and political commitments backed by funding and accountability measures must be prioritized to prevent and respond to gender-based violence experienced by girls, particularly child mar...

Despite the challenges faced, Sudanese Girls show remarkable resilience depicted in the leadership roles they have taken up in the local responses. Girls are leading in their communities, including in displacement camps, as heads of Adolescent clubs, school clubs and networks. They also lead awareness and advocacy campaigns as well as represent peers in adult forums such as protection committees and networks. Girls have the desire, passion and commitment to lead! Let us invest and build their agency to be leaders even in this crisis context. The Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Child Protection (CP) Areas of Responsibility (AoRs) stand united to say: girls in Sudan are not only collateral damage of this war—they are the future of peace. Webinar Series: Tackling Gender Based Violence via Cash and Voucher Assistance
Gender-based violence (GBV) is rampant — globally, one in three women experiences some form of violence or abuse. GBV is pervasive in humanitarian settings and anecdotal evidence points to the increase in GBV since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since 2018, there has been an increased focus on the use of Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) for protection outcomes, including the integration of CVA into GBV response. An array of guidance and tools on the topic are now available. UNFPA outlined in their 2022 Humanitarian Action Overview that cash transfers would be an integral part of their GBV prevention and response approach. However, evidence from the use of CVA for GBV outcomes is scarce and opportunities to leverage CVA within a GBV case management framework are rarely seized. Significant knowledge gaps remain on the topic for CVA and GBV specialists alike. To fill this gap and raise the interest of practitioners, t...

Women's oppression and inequality spurred women to become more vocal and active in campaigning for change. Learn more about the history of International Women's Day here. On International Women’s Day, March 8 2023, the GBV AOR Community of Practice would like to invite you to a solidarity space and discussion on the status of women in humanitarian emergencies in 2023. We'd like to spend an hour putting our attention on how the conflicts that we are responding to are affecting women, particularly women human rights defenders. We'll discuss what is happening to women in Afghanistan, Iran, Haiti, Somalia, and anywhere else that we work. Our intention is to create a space of feminist solidarity on Zoom to discuss and support each other and refle...
