‘Due Diligence, What Next?’ Housing, Land and Property (HLP) Implications for Protection in Practice: Coordination between CCCM, Shelter and Protection - GPC Forum 2020
Housing Land and Property issues cut across many aspects of crisis response including activities carried out under Shelter, CCCM and Protection clusters. This session will focus on what happens when due diligence Standards and processes meet the complex reality of an emergency context. Conducting due diligence enables humanitarian actors to ask critical questions before embarking on activities that depend on housing, land and natural resources. But what happens when this due diligence uncovers complex issues like pre-existing conflicts, multiple rights-holders, and ‘owners’ refusing the construction of emergency shelters and sanitation facilities? How do humanitarian actors respond? This session will explore practical approaches to coordination and collaboration with and across protection, shelter, CCCM and others in response to this issue. The discussion will be based around examples and experiences that draw together skills and techniques from across the sectors. Participants will...
Mine Action: Consultations on Mine Action AoR Guidance Requirements - GPC Forum 2020
Mine Action in emergency settings is a critical life-saving humanitarian activity in itself and an enabler of other humanitarian activities. The Mine Action Area of Responsibility (MA AoR) is a field-oriented coordination mechanism that aims to ensure a predictable, accountable, and effective mine action response in emergencies. It envisions a world in which people living in humanitarian emergencies are protected from explosive ordnance and needs of victims are realized. This session aims to seek the views of MA AoR coordinators, members and partners on strategic and operational guidance required to adapt to current and emerging challenges. Important thematic areas may include: guidance on the relationship between the global MA AoR and in-country MA AoR; definitions of responsibility and synergy between different entities; new areas of work outside of traditional humanitarian mine action; governance, cooperation with national authorities and local actors including NGOs within the...
A Roundtable on Preparedness for Protection in the Context of Disasters and Climate Change - GPC Forum 2020
Preventing and preparing for internal displacement during armed conflict is notoriously difficult. In comparison, the predictable, cyclical or slow-onset nature or geographic location of many hazards, such as hurricane season, volcanic eruptions or droughts, means that much can be done to avoid disaster displacement in the first place or reduce the risk of displacement, through disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate change adaptation and development measures that address the underlying causes of displacement. Organized by UNHCR, GPC, IOM and the GBV AoR, the focus of the Roundtable will be to discuss the greater involvement of the GPC, field clusters and AoRs and their role in preparedness efforts and including necessary preparedness measures in their protection strategies and respective operations. The event will inform the development of specific guidance on the role of the protection cluster and AoRs in preparedness efforts and measures in their operations. Date & Time: ...

Beyond the Shadow Pandemic: Preventing and Responding to the GBV Risks and Experiences of Adolescent Girls
Save the Children and the Women’s Refugee Commission warmly invite you to a critical discussion on the margins of CSW and the Generation Equality Mexico Forum focused on the issue of adolescent girls and their increased risks and experiences of gender-based violence, and calling for concrete and actionable solutions. Gender inequality, combined with unequal age-based power dynamics and discrimination, means that adolescent girls, particularly the most marginalized, experience distinct risks of GBV and additional barriers to accessing essential response services. Adolescent girls too often fall through the gaps between protection efforts focused on younger children and those designed for women. Collective and coordinated action, the inclusion of adolescent girl-led solutions, and concrete policy and political commitments backed by funding and accountability measures must be prioritized to prevent and respond to gender-based violence experienced by girls, particularly child mar...
