Technical brief on what is and how to conduct a secondary data review (SDR). A Secondary Data Review (SDR) is a rigorous process of data collation, synthesis and analysis building on a desk study of all relevant information available from different sources such as the government, NGOs, UN agencies, media, social media, etc. An SDR builds on the logic that the severity of the crisis, the type, scope, scale of problems, and risks faced by the affected population can be estimated or projected with reasonable degree of accuracy by following a systematic and multi-disciplinary approach.

This Rapid Gender Analysis (RGA) seeks to draw attention to the gender dynamics in the war in Ukraine—both preexisting and emerging—and draws out recommendations for humanitarian leadership, actors and donors to ensure consideration of the gendered dimensions of risk, vulnerability and capabilities in response and preparedness to this crisis. This RGA is a progressive publication based on secondary data resources—both pre-crisis information as well as information that has been released after 24 February. Resources comprise of English, Ukrainian and Russian language sources across humanitarian information sources and media as well as being informed through anecdotal discussions with UN Women partners. Case Study: Women for Change (WFC)

Since 2016, Women for Change (WFC) is a women-led organization (WLO) that has been undertaking work in protection, education (formal and informal), reproductive health, food security and livelihoods, peace building, organizational capacity strengthening, and advocacy in Central Equatoria, Warrap and Western Bahr El Ghazel States, South Sudan. Prior to this project, WFC had never assumed leadership of a GBV working group. The opportunity to assume co-leadership of the GBV working group in Warrap State emerged through this project in February 2022. When WFC’s Executive Director came across the call for expressions of interest shared by the South Sudan NGO Forum’s information desk, they decided to apply. Out of the ten organizations that applied, WFC was the successful applicant.
Tip Sheet- Defining Linkages to Better Assist Survivors of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse- UNFPA 2022

The Tip Sheet summarizes key challenges and recommended actions related to linkages between GBV and PSEA in coordinating and responding to SEA for PSEA and GBV coordinators, and other practitioners. The key challenges and recommended actions were informed by 80 consultations with 105 PSEA/GBV experts across six regions, including regionally based experts and from 26 countries1 (including countries from the 35 PSEA priority countries for the IASC) as well as headquarters. In addition, 12 group case management consultations were conducted with 105 people from GBV case management organizations as well as Interaction’s Survivor Support Sub-Working Group, the GBV AoR, and IASC MHPSS Reference Group.
