The 2021 IGWG Plenary: Exploring Gender Transformative Approaches: Lessons Learned and New Opportunities in Health Programming
The 2021 IGWG Plenary will explore the current state of GTP in global health and, specifically, family planning and reproductive health. This event aims to advance debate and consensus on definitions of and criteria for GTP, as well as highlight the potential gaps or limitations; share insights into factors for success in applying these approaches; and identify ways that gender transformative program elements can better be applied to policies and institutional practices and strengthen government health systems.

Launch of research report - Child marriage in humanitarian crises: Girls and Parents Speak Out on Risk and Protective Factors, Decision-Making, and Solutions
Save the Children Denmark, Plan International and Berkeley University will launch the results of a large research project on child marriages in humanitarian crisis. The project was first launched in 2017 and has three phases. The report to be launched on Wednesday is phase 2 with focus on concrete action research in Jordan and Uganda. Denmark is a major donor of this work through its strategic partnership agreement with Safe the Children Denmark.

‘Blind Spots’: Unaccompanied and Separated Girls in Europe (UNICEF and Child Hub Webinar)
The purpose of the webinar is to shed light on the specific experiences and issues of unaccompanied and separate girls in the European Response. UNICEF’s Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia has been focusing on this issues through the programme on “Action Against Gender-Based Violence Affecting Refugee and Migrant Women and Children in Greece, Italy, Serbia and Bulgaria”, funded by the United States Government.

Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons and is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women. It reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes, and constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women and girls. The practice also violates their rights to sexual and reproductive health, security and physical integrity, their right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and their right to life when the procedure results in death.
