This literature review is part of a series of knowledge products produced by the GBV AoR Helpdesk which aim to support the mitigation of GBV risks faced by women and girls’ refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine. This review informs the development of a practical guidance resource for private hosts and a key recommendations brief . This paper focuses on identifying promising practice from shelter, hosting and alternative care guidance and procedures that mitigate gender-based violence (GBV) risks.

In March 2020, emerging gender impacts and trends were highlighted in an Advocacy Brief developed by GiHA resulting in key recommendations. Good practices from across the Asia Pacific Region have seen these recommendations being put into action and six weeks on, due to the scale and rapidly changing nature of the pandemic, it was seen as crucial to continue to document evidence of gender impacts across Asia Pacific and to update analysis and recommendations.

This guidance note provides basic information on how to conduct risk analyses for gender-based violence (GBV) programming. A programmatic risk analysis is useful as it considers some of the essential features that should already be in place, or planned for, when designing and implementing GBV response or prevention programming to ensure safety. This guidance first provides a brief discussion of risk analyses for response and prevention programming, and then provides sample checklists for key components of the analyses. The document concludes with a list of supplemental resources to further inform risk analyses design and implementation.
