Webinar: Climate Change and its impact on GBV in Emergencies
Until recently, climate change action was not seen to be a part of humanitarian response but sat in the “development” sector. This is changing due to the frequency and severity of natural disasters, as well as the impact of climatic disasters and humanitarian conflict situations. The impact of climate change is also being seen to increase insecurity which is contributing to conflict. Humanitarians must now see climate change as a factor to incorporate in their work in responding to and preparing for humanitarian emergencies. Gender-based Violence (GBV) program managers and coordinators must also analyze and be prepared to respond to the issue. The GBV AoR Community of Practice is collaborating with the GBV AoR Helpdesk to present a webinar drawing from the 2021 Helpdesk Learning Brief: Climate Change and Gender-Based Violence: What are the Risks?&nb...
MENA Webinar Series: Tackling Gender-Based Violence via Cash and Voucher Assistance
Since 2018, there has been an increased focus on the use of cash and voucher assistance (CVA) for protection outcomes, including the integration of CVA into GBV response. An array of guidance and tools on the topic are now available. In their 2022 Humanitarian Action Overview, UNFPA outlined that cash transfers would be an integral part of their GBV prevention and response approach. However, evidence from the use of CVA for GBV outcomes is scarce and opportunities to leverage CVA within a GBV case management framework are rarely seized. Significant knowledge gaps remain on the topic for CVA and GBV specialists alike. To fill this gap and raise the interest of practitioners, the CALP Network is hosting a series of webinars on this theme looking at the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Join us for these exciting webinars as we draw on the learning in Turkey, Northwest Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. Expert panelists will share: Evidence about the impact programming has had on ...

Post Graduate Diploma in Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies at the University of Nairobi
Please join us on Thursday, 13 October at 14:30 (EAT) to learn more about the Post Graduate Diploma course in GBViE that is being launched by the University of Nairobi. The course is asynchronous (weekly materials can be downloaded and then completed at the pace of the student), in English, and completely online. This is a wonderful opportunity for emerging practitioners and allies who want to gain expertise in GBV prevention and response in humanitarian settings and who might be living in countries with low-resources. Potential students can apply to the University directly. Students must pay tuition, but I hope that many of our member organizations will consider sponsoring staff in their own organizations or among their implementing partners. Join us on Thursday if you have any questions. Please share this with members in your network who might be interested in this exciting opportunity.
Moldova Rapid GBV Risk Assessment in CVA
10 Oct, 2022
Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022, more than 606,000 refugee individuals have entered Moldova. Among these refugees, 90,745 Ukrainian refugees currently remain in the country.1 In an attempt to respond to the basic needs of these individuals, 62,785 have received emergency cash and voucher assistance (CVA) since the early stages of the emergency response.2 In July 2022, the Gender-Based Violence sub-working group (GBV SWG) and Cash Working Group (CWG) jointly conducted a rapid GBV risk assessment exercise to assess potential GBV risks for refugees that may be created by this CVA programming in Moldova and to recommend enhancement of the response to mitigate the risks. The findings of the exercise were reviewed and validated by both CWG and GBV SWG partners. See the whole GBV Risk Mitigation in CVA toolkit here: https://gbvaor.net/node/1607
