This event is led by the Global Protection Cluster Task Team on Anti-Trafficking. Participants will be introduced to the Task Team’s new draft guidance on anti-trafficking, learn how to identify/refer/manage trafficking cases, and hear from 3 field protection actors and anti-trafficking experts about how they are responding to trafficking in their operations. Participants will be invited to share their own experiences and challenges in responding to trafficking as we collectively work on improving our global and field level approaches. Engagement with human rights system is one of the possible responses to address identified human rights and protection issues. Considering available uses of human rights mechanisms should be an integral part of protection strategies and responses. There are a range of human rights mechanisms, and several ways in which PC can engage with them as part of a human rights engagement strategy. Each of the mechanisms have their own advantages and disadvantages. The strategic and well-planned use of human rights mechanisms can enhance the protection of and the search for solutions for persons affected by the crises. Cash & Voucher Assistance: The Cash for Protection Agenda and Integration of GBV Risk Mitigation in Cash - GPC Forum 2020
The Cash for Protection (C4P) Task Team has recently published the Cash for Protection Stocktaking Paper in order to support a common understanding of the use of CVA in the protection sector, share up-to-date evidence and highlight gaps in knowledge, practice that require critical attention and resources. This session will help protection specialists, including but not limited to GBV specialists, to better understand the potential of using CVA for protection outcomes, evidence and evidence gaps, and key stakeholder actions to tackle gaps in evidence and practice. This session will dive into CVA for GBV outcomes and GBV risk mitigation in CVA as a potential roadmap for expanding CVA and Protection integration across the other AoRs (Child Protection, Housing Land and Property, and Mine Action). Strengthening Protection of Civilians efforts by Protection Clusters and Operational Actors - GPC Forum 2020
Organized by OCHA, UNHCR and ICRC, this virtual event will reflect on the role and contribution of field-based Protection Clusters to preventing or responding to protection of civilians (PoC) concerns, including through developing PoC strategies, monitoring, gathering and regular/timely sharing of information, analysis, advocacy and negotiation with relevant stakeholders, including parties to the conflict and weapons bearers, and the direct provision of assistance and specific protection programmes to reduce or respond to the consequences of armed violence. GBV Risk Mitigation Integration in Protection Work - GPC Forum 2020
As part of the GPC Global Protection Forum 2020, the GBV Guidelines Reference Group and GBV AoR organize a virtual session on GBV risk mitigation integration in Protection Work. This session will highlight good practices and challenges of GBV risk mitigation in Protection work from Protection and CCCM clusters to facilitate peer-learning among field coordinators and provide concrete ideas of how GBV risk mitigation can be implemented within protection programming and coordination. This session also aims to identify key actions that Protection and CCCM clusters can take to further scale up and institutionalize GBV risk mitigation into their work. The event will include a panel discussion among practitioners of protection, GBV and CCCM to highlight challenges and good practices of GBV risk mitigation, followed by group discussions to further share their experiences and identify strategic ways forward. Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities and Older Persons in the Humanitarian Response to GBV - GPC Forum 2020
Organized by the GBV AoR, UNHCR, Humanity & Inclusion and HelpAge international, this session will focus on the specific protection risks that persons with disabilities and older persons face in relation to emergencies, particularly focusing on the increased exposure to Gender-Based Violence during COVID-19. Through dialogue, this session aims to provide a contextual mapping of protection risks and barriers faced by persons with disabilities and older persons, particularly in relation to GBV. Field-level practitioners, including Disabled Persons Organisations and Older Persons Organisation, and the IASC Reference Group on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities will share promising practices on the implementation of the IASC Guidelines on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, both within specialist GBV services and through targeted GBV risk mitigation across sectors. Organized by the Task Team on Law and Policy (TTLP), this session will discuss the role of field protection clusters and AoRs in the development and promotion of legal and policy frameworks relating to the protection of IDPs in country of operation, as well as the use of existing frameworks in protection programming and response in practice.
