Breaking Barriers: Empowering Women-Led Organizations in GBV Prevention in Emergencies
Recognizing the critical role of women-led organizations in addressing GBV, this webinar aims to shed light on innovative approaches to support these organizations, amplify their voices, and explore strategic funding mechanisms to empower them and their efforts to prevent GBV from occurring during emergencies. This event will highlight the approaches in strengthening the role of WLOs in GBV coordination, capacity to influence humanitarian decision making and increasing access to more flexible, longer-term humanitarian financing. Examples of recent achievements include the global CERF grant and its higher-than-target funding to WLOs, and the IASC Principals Roundtable on GBV financing hosted by the ERC and Germany, in its Call to Action leadership role. Finding Ways and Means to Deliver Gender-based Violence Programming in Hostile Environments - GBV AoR Helpdesk 2023

This learning brief discusses a range of strategies and methods humanitarian actors can use to support and sustain GBV response and prevention programming in hostile contexts. It outlines what ‘hostile contexts’ refers to in this paper, and why it is important for GBV program managers and service providers to be able to identify and adapt to rapid or incremental increases in hostility in humanitarian environments, which are likely to adversely impact the implementation of GBV prevention and response programming. The paper discusses some of the risks women and girls face in these high-risk environments and concludes with several key considerations for GBV specialists.

The humanitarian community has been united in its call for unfettered humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip so that civilians can be reached with lifesaving commodities and services. Importantly, and to support this call, the Flash Appeal for OPT has identified the specific and intersectional impacts that the current crisis is having on women and girls, and recalls the commitment of humanitarian actors to uphold the centrality of protection, by ensuring considered, resourced, coordinated action, decision making, and leadership across all thematic areas of humanitarian response promote meaningful protection outcomes for crisis affected and at risk communities.
