Webinar: Adolescent Girls in Humanitarian Emergencies
Adolescent Girls in Emergencies: Evidence of What Works to Prevent and Respond to GBV The GBV AoR Community of Practice is pleased to invite you to a webinar examining the experience of adolescent girls in humanitarian emergencies. REGISTER HERE: https://unfpa.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUrduGprD0vEtf4VDEXofM8uzAdeQsXNBXh It is a well-established fact that adolescent girls face a heightened risk of personal safety violations and human rights abuses during emergencies. Yet, because there is no clear division of labour between the GBV and child protection sectors, adolescent girls are often neglected by both groups, and violence against this subpopulation goes unaddressed. GBV prevention and response programming still needs to do more to understand their needs. In this webinar, we will be learning from a review of evidence published in The Lancet on a special edition of Child a...

Statement of the Gender-Based Violence Area of Responsibility
28 May, 2021
GBV in Tigray The Gender-Based Violence Area of Responsibility (GBV AoR) continues to be alarmed by reports of increasing violence against women and girls – including harrowing accounts of sexual violence– because of conflict and insecurity in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. Though we know gender-based violence (GBV) can be prevented, GBV continues to be present in every conflict, crisis and disaster because of gender inequalities that persist across the globe. That this pattern would repeat in Tigray is not a surprise, but is extremely worrisome. The GBV AoR brings together non-governmental organisations, UN agencies, and others to prevent and respond to GBV. We have been working with local and international non-governmental organisations, including women-led organisations, and others to respond to GBV needs since the outset of conflict in the Tigray region in November 2020. The GBV AoR – in collaboration with partners - has and will continue to ensure responders have the mo...
