Global Protection Forum 2021
Global Protection Forum 2021 will take place during the last week of October 2021. The participants are invited to showcase frontline work, hear from local voices and engage with protection actors and members states on current protection work in humanitarian operations. The forum consists of 12 sessions spread across one week, including a formal opening and a virtual exhibition space accessible to all. Discussions will include: protection of civilians, mental health and psychosocial support, engagement with armed actors, role of faith actors in protection, anti-trafficking work in conflict settings, cash voucher assistance and child protection, management and follow up on individual protection cases, frontline local protection leadership and response, property and land rights, climate change and conflict contexts.

During 2020, the GBV AoR regional support teams strengthened GBV coordination in emergencies in 24 countries. COVID-19 necessitated moving to remote assistance. REGA teams were bolstered by the arrival of new regional experts in information management (IM), rapid response, GBV preparedness and academic partnerships. Despite the hurdles related to the pandemic, regional and country level advocacy and technical support for the GBV community continued across five regions. UNFPA provided effective management support through its regional and country operations.

مع تفشي وباء كوفيد-19 ،تفاقمت مخاطر التعرض للعنف القائم على النوع االجتماعي بالنسبة للنساء والفتيات يف فلسطين. وقد ورد إلى صندوق األمم المتحدة للسكان من قبل الفئة المعنية من النساء أن ًا يف تفاقم هذه المخاطر تضاؤل الفرص االقتصادية فضالً عن الضغوط واألزمات المالية قد أسهموا جميع ً لالحتياجات ً لذلك، قدم صندوق األمم المتحدة للسكان قسائم شرائية تلبية إلى حدٍ بعيد. واستجابة الملحة لألسر ذات األوضاع االقتصادية الهشة وللنساء المعرضات لخطر العنف القائم على النوع ٍ من غزة والقدس الشرقية. وقد جاءت معدالت رضا المستفيدون عن هذه المساعدات االجتماعي يف كل مرتفعة إبان مراقبات ما بعد التوزيع. ففي قطاع غزة، أبلغ %97 من المستفيدين أن هذا البرنامج كان له تأثير إيجابي على صحتهم النفسية.
Analysis of GBV in 2021 Humanitarian Needs Overviews and Response Plans (HNO & HRP) - GBV AoR 2021

This analysis was conducted to evaluate how GBV needs have been analyzed and how the GBV response has been planned in 2021 HNOs and HRPs and how agreed-upon changes translated into better GBV representation and integration. Specifically, this process: 1) Evaluated the GBV sectoral needs analysis, including indicators and methodologies. 2) Assessed the level of GBV integration into other parts of HNO and HRP 2021 (intersectoral and other sectors’ parts). o Identified common challenges during the 2021 HNO & HRP processes. 3) Identified best practices and areas of improvement to inform the 2022 HPC cycle. 4) Reinforced country-level attention and investment in the upcoming HPC cycle. 5) Identified key messages for advocacy purposes to increase attention to GBV in global directions and policy documents determining how HNOs and HRPs are developed.

The SVRI has created a series of regional and thematic reports to showcase the work and highlight local research projects supported by its Grant Making Programme between 2014 and 2020, in partnership with the World Bank through the GBV Development Market Place Award. Between 2014 and 2020, we made 60 grants globally: 19 in Africa 27 in total in Asian regions 13 in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

Born out of the need to increase research in the field in low- and middle-income countries, the SVRI established a Grant Making Programme in 2014. The programme was run in partnership with the World Bank between 2016-2020.
