Cross-sectoral work as a Condition for High Impact MHPSS - GPC Forum 2020

There is a growing body of evidence that MHPSS is vital in the delivery of protection services. Yet, there are still several obstacles for MHPSS to produce the desired high impact. This session intends to address current issues by discovering which MHPSS elements can be integrated in which sector, defining responsibilities in MHPSS service delivery, how MHPSS gaps can be identified and how MHPSS services can be coordinated in different settings. Participants will be guided in making critical reflections about the situation in the country where they work.

A Roundtable on Preparedness for Protection in the Context of Disasters and Climate Change - GPC Forum 2020

Preventing and preparing for internal displacement during armed conflict is notoriously difficult. In comparison, the predictable, cyclical or slow-onset nature or geographic location of many hazards, such as hurricane season, volcanic eruptions or droughts, means that much can be done to avoid disaster displacement in the first place or reduce the risk of displacement, through disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate change adaptation and development measures that address the underlying causes of displacement.

Preventing GBV in Humanitarian Crises: Advancing What We Know Works and Measuring GBV Outcomes - GPC Forum 2020

This event proposes to look at several initiatives and programs that can highlight what we know is working and where additional effort is needed to strengthen prevention strategies and programs in humanitarian crises. It will also provide an opportunity for open discussion and input into a draft Framework that aims to serve as a resource for helping organizations improve how they analyze, design, and implement prevention programs in order that they can be effectively measured to achieve GBV outcomes.

Effective RCCE is the provision of clear, context appropriate and accountable answers to the questions that matter to affected communities and is an area of aid increasingly seen to require more intentional thought, resourcing and inter-agency coordination. Increasingly, communication is seen no longer a space of innovation, but as fundamental to protection work and humanitarian response. While this holds great opportunity for defining the future of humanitarian response, it also presents risks surrounding the lingering ‘digital divide’, data protection and safeguarding.

Mine Action in emergency settings is a critical life-saving humanitarian activity in itself and an enabler of other humanitarian activities. The Mine Action Area of Responsibility (MA AoR) is a field-oriented coordination mechanism that aims to ensure a predictable, accountable, and effective mine action response in emergencies. It envisions a world in which people living in humanitarian emergencies are protected from explosive ordnance and needs of victims are realized.

This session will focus on what happens when due diligence Standards and processes meet the complex reality of an emergency context. Conducting due diligence enables humanitarian actors to ask critical questions before embarking on activities that depend on housing, land and natural resources.
