Advocacy Note: Meeting the Commitment to the Call to Action in the Humanitarian Programme Cycle - Call to Action 2020

Reviews of recent HNOs and HRPs capture progress, but also highlight some serious gaps that continue to stand in the way of a response that effectively addresses gender-based violence and is fully accountable to women and girls.

As Call to Action partners, we have both the opportunity and obligation to address these systemic issues in humanitarian planning processes. Below are a set of priority recommendations for humanitarian leadership and implementing agencies; these should also be supported by Call to Action donors in their advocacy.

International Consultant – Coordinate and Support the Asia and Pacific Regional UNiTE and 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaigns

The purpose of this consultancy is to support the coordination and planning of the UNiTE campaign, and activities related to the campaign; 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, linking with the Generation Equality Gender-based Violence (GBV) Action Coalition, the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative and global UN strategies on gender -based violence and COVID-19, and other relevant work related to the campaign.

Gender Based-Violence (GBV) Sub-Cluster Coordinator

Under the overall guidance of the UNFPA CO Representative and the direct supervision of the Deputy Representative, the incumbent facilitates and coordinates the rapid implementation of multi-sectoral, interagency GBV interventions in a humanitarian emergency. Comprehensive GBV prevention and response programming in humanitarian emergencies requires skilled coordination of a range of organizations and actors from the displaced and host communities, NGOs, government partners, UN agencies, and other national and international organizations.

Gender-Based Violence, Girls’ and Women’s Rights in the Central Sahel

CARE International, Plan International, UNFPA and the GBV AoR have organized a virtual high-level side event on the theme: “Gender-Based Violence, Girls’ and Women’s Rights in the Central Sahel”, on the margins of a Ministerial Roundtable on Central Sahel, taking place on the 20th, October 2020, in Copenhagen, Denmark. The high-level side event is scheduled for tomorrow,  Friday, 16 October 2020, from 3:30 to 5:00 CEST (13:30 in Dakar, 14:30 in Abuja, 4:30 in Nairobi).

Programme Manager,Women and Girls First (WGF) Programme

The Programme Manager is located in UNFPA Country Office in Yangon, Myanmar. S/he will provide overall strategic advice and direction in the management of the Initiative and ensures delivery of resources and results according to planned targets.  The incumbent will be based in Yangon with frequent backstopping missions to the field offices.
