Frontline Resilience: Mapping the Role and Needs of Women-Led Organizations in Sudan
Sep 08, 2025
This report, developed with the support of UNFPA Sudan, and the GBV AoR, provides an in-depth analysis of the contributions, challenges, and priorities of Women-Led Organizations (WLOs) in Sudan. It highlights their pivotal role in humanitarian response, particularly in GBV prevention and response, and offers concrete recommendations on how to strengthen their leadership, participation, and sustainability in the ongoing crisis.
Key findings include:
- The essential frontline role of WLOs in delivering GBV services, humanitarian aid, and community protection despite conflict and access challenges.
- Severe funding shortfalls—over 91% of surveyed WLOs reported suspending activities or laying off staff due to lack of resources.
- Persistent barriers to meaningful participation in humanitarian coordination, despite their proven community trust and reach.
- Clear priorities for support, including direct, flexible funding, leadership development, and inclusive engagement in decision-making.
